Minutes of the 2024 AGM

The minutes of the 2024 Annual General Meeting of South Wales Wings, a region of the Goldwing Owner’s Club of Great Britain, held on Sunday, 10 November, 2024 were considered and unanimously approved (Mr B Simpson proposed, Mr S Durrant seconded).

Annual Report

Mr M Green as the Regional Rep gave his report as follows:

Well, 2026 approaches and three more events before Christmas and they are Caerphilly River of Light Lantern Parade 21st November, Bargoed Music and Light Parade 6th December and Turkey and Tinsel in Torquay 5th to 7th December and that will round the year off nicely.

2025 has been a busy year for South Wales Wings with three Treffens attended and several Wing Dings and Drop In’s under our belts, not to mention over fourteen static events most of which we managed to attend but some were washed out or members were away.  One of the highlights of the year was a presentation of £2,000.00 to Blood Bikes Wales which was gratefully received, and we also received a donation of £62.00 from the Aberkenfig Ladies Group after Barry gave a presentation about GWOCGB and South Wales Wings, that also in turn will be donated to Blood Bike Wales.

South Wales Wings has received notice from Eddie that he could now sell his business premises that included the garage and land surrounding and we are in debt to Eddie for allowing the Club the use of the land to store our Caravan and Container Unit free of charge for many years. We are now informed that the new owners will be looking to charge a sum of £300.00 per unit per year, which is very reasonable, but we will be considering disposing of the caravan to cut costs or asking Eddie to negotiate a special price on our behalf.

South Wales Wings at present has a healthy membership with over forty members, and in 2026 we look forward to holding our Wing Ding, venue to be confirmed, so we need all the support we can get which will be very much appreciated. On a disappointing note, the main Club took a hit earlier in the year which caused a rift, and we lost a number of members over differences of opinion that led to a lot of abuse to several members hopefully, that is all behind us now or is it?

The Open Meeting at Bromsgrove went well and all was going well and the future looked brighter, but since then we have learned that the Treffen Co-Ordinator David Long has resigned and also the newly elected Treasurer Shannon has also resigned which leaves the Club in limbo and desperately searching new National Committee (NC) members to fill the vacancies, we wait in anticipation to see what happens. Hot off the press as from Thursday 6th November it was announced that Bob Simpson GWOCGB International Rep will also be stepping down from his position; we wish him well and hope to see him around the various Wing Dings and Treffens. Further information has since come to light that both Bob and Dave have resigned amicably and remain with the Club, but Shannon the Treasurer had over-stepped his mark and thought he could do as he wished and was ready to order £20.000 worth of gazebos and change bank details and accounts willy nilly without consulting the NC. The result being that all historic GWOCGB records have disappeared, and a large sum of money was transferred to Hampshire Wings; he has resigned on a sour note making things very awkward for the NC, but thankfully Pat Helm is getting things back onto track with the help of Barry Hawkins ex GWOCGB Treasurer.

Meanwhile, the Calendar for 2026 is starting to fill up with several Wing Dings and Treffens already being announced, and the new EU Entry /Exit system came into force on 12th of October 2025.

Last year we had a clean out of the container unit and had a lot of spare parts available and I took images of same and put them on Facebook to sell but with no success, I also said we were looking for an Event  Trailer for our static displays and we now have one along with a gazebo gifted by Barry’s son.

Well, all that remains is to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Treasurer’s Report

Mr B J Hawkins presented to the meeting his Report dated 1 November, 2025 which consisted of a Receipts and Payments Statement for the twelve months ended 31 October, 2025 together with cash/bank reconciliation, a List of Donations made during the period and a Stock Reconciliation as at 31 October, 2025 (copies attached).

It was noted that during the period Payments had exceeded Receipts by an amount of £1,951.79, this was to be expected as it was not a Wing Ding year (31 October, 2024 Receipts had exceeded Payments by £1,640.88). Balances at the Region·’s Bank Accounts and Cash in Hand amounted at 31 October, 2025 to £3,856.42 (31 October, 2024 – £5,808.21). Apart from the Member’s Supplies payments, the Christmas Away weekend payments and the donation to our selected charity there were no notable additional payment transactions made. Apart from the Member’s Supplies income and the Christmas Away Weekend income no notable income transactions took place either. The Statement was unanimously approved by the meeting following a proposal by Mr E Hawkins, duly seconded by Mr S Durrant.

The Donations Made and Equipment Purchased Statement dated 1 November, 2025 was considered and approved by the meeting following a proposal by Mr E  Hawkins and seconded by Mr S Durrant, it was noted that our charity had been supported by a very large amount. A donation had been paid to Blood Bikes Wales of £2,000. The Equipment Purchased section of the Statement showed an amount of £103.75, all items required for display at static events.

The Region’s stock value had again reduced during the period and totalled £1,438.87 as at 31 October, 2025 (£1,651.35 – 31 October, 2024). The meeting unanimously approved the Stock Reconciliation Statement following a proposal by Mr E Hawkins, seconded by Mr S Durrant.

The Treasurer thanked all the members for supporting him throughout the year.

Allocation of Donations for 2024/2025

Following the proposal by Mr B J Hawkins, seconded by Mr R Jones, it was unanimously agreed that a Charity Commission registered local charity be supported and that a donation of £250.00 be made to Blood Bikes Wales (Charity Number 1143352), an NHS blood/plasma transportation support service that provided its service on evenings and bank holidays when the NHS service did not operate, the service being staffed by volunteer motor cycle riders including some members of the Region. This amount being drawn from held reserves and the donation of £62.00 made by the Aberkenfig Ladies Group.

Unfortunately, Unilever plc had no longer supported the region with pot noodles this year; it was hoped that this situation would improve in time.

Selection of Charities for 2025/2026

It was unanimously agreed by the meeting that Blood Bikes Wales (proposed by Mr B J Hawkins, seconded by Mrs L Pryor) be the Region’s nominated charity for the twelve-month period commencing 1 November, 2025. The Treasurer reminded members that if, during the period to 31 October, 2026, they identified a local registered charity who needed our support they should contact him. It was also agreed that in the future it might be necessary to share any Wing Ding or Wing Ding raffle profits with both our nominated charity and the region following the increase in our site storage costs.

Vote of Thanks

On behalf of the other members, Mr BJ Hawkins gave a Vote of Thanks to Mr M Green, Mr L Roach, Mr L Kenting and Mr J Howells for the work they had undertaken for the Region during the preceding twelve months, the membership was very grateful. All were congratulated by the membership in the usual way. Mr Durrant also thanked the Treasurer for his contribution to the Region during the year.

Appointment of Officers

There being no other nominations, and as Mr Green, Mr Roach, Mr Kenting, Mr Howells and Mr Hawkins had offered themselves for re-election, they were duly appointed following a proposal by Mr R Simpson and seconded by Mr S Apsey. The meeting unanimously therefore appointed Mr M Green as Regional Representative, Mr Les Roach as Assistant Regional Representative, Mr Lester Kenting as Road Captain, Mr Jeff Howells as Webmaster and Mr Barry Hawkins as the Region’s Honorary Treasurer (and Quartermaster).

No other AGM business was voiced at the meeting.
