Meeting Notes May, 2022

                                                                                                         BJH/09.05.2022

We welcomed eighteen members to the meeting. It was especially good to see Mike Preece and his partner who had not attended for some time.

Apologies had been received from Tony & Helen, Bill & Pinky, Andrew & Sharon, Mark & Karen, Harry & Gaynor, Nigel & Sarah, Bob & Sonja, Jeff & June, Lester, Ken, Vaughan and Keith. A new member, John Buckley, also sent his apologies. It was noted that Ken had an accident whilst he was at his daughters in Pembrokeshire; he has broken his hip and is in Carmarthen Hospital. We will send him our best wishes when we are able.

Jeff is still looking for member photographs for our Website. Please send them to Jeff at gl24carat@hotmail.com.

The South Wales Wings Leaflet for new Goldwing owners is still available from Barry.

Barry reported on the South Wales Wing Ding 12 to 17 July 2022 at Caerphilly RFC. We are still looking for things for our goody bag and donations. A very successful site meeting took place recently with the Rugby Club’s treasurer and many points were clarified. From the meeting Barry has been able to produce a Site Plan which is our guide for laying out the field. This is also required for our insurers and the Caerphilly Council Events Safety Advisory Group. The Health & Safety Risk Assessment has also been carried out and will be sent to the GWOCGB Events Officer. Another site meeting will take place on Saturday 4 June at 1130 with the Rugby Club Caterers who will advise what food will be provided.

Barry had also recently circulated to all members a Supplies Listing and members are asked to donate items shown on the list. This will save us money for those items in the Welcome Tent. Eddie kindly agreed to arrange for the Inscription Caravan to be looked over to ensure that brakes, lights and tyres were in good order. Vans to transport our Wing Ding stock will be provided by Eddie and Gerald.

It was agreed that we would load up the vans on Monday 11 July at 1000, meeting at the container (Motomec Aberdare Ltd, Golden Acres Garage, Park View Terrace, Abercwmboi, Aberdare, CF44 6AA). We would set the site up on the Tuesday and Wednesday meeting at the rugby site at 1000, with our guests arriving on Thursday 15 July. We are looking for volunteers to man the Inscription Caravan and the Welcome Tent. Please contact the Officers if you can help

One item that came from the Health & Safety Risk Assessment is the need to have at the Wing Ding a qualified First Aider. Unfortunately, the Certificates many of us held expired in 2020. Tony can arrange for a one day course to be held during the week at a cost of £75.00 per person. The Region will subsidise this amount. If you would like to get qualified, please contact Barry soonest.

The GWOCGB Membership Renewal became due on 1 January, 2022, and is now overdue. Thank you to those who have renewed. For those who have not, Forms are on line or from Barry.

The 2022 GWOCGB Help Guide is now available on the GWOCGB Website.

Malcolm provided a very comprehensive report on the proceedings of the GWOCGB AGM held in Coventry on 24 April, 2022. The minutes of that meeting will shortly be on the GWOCGB Website under the Gen Sec section. Well worth a read. The GWOCGB 2021 Statutory Accounts are available from Barry.

The 40th Anniversary British Treffen will take place at Uttoxeter Racecourse between Thursday 25 August and Monday 29 August, 2022. It will be a fantastic event. All details can be found, including the free items you will receive if you attend, on the GWOCGB Website, Treffen section. Lots to read about and you will kick yourself if you do not attend. Pre- Inscription forms are also on the Website.

We have received a very nice thank you letter from the Vale of Glamorgan Foodbank thanking us for our continued support with the Pot Noodles (kindly donated to us by Unilever). Whilst the amount of donations had reduced in recent months we were still doing our bit for the community.

Richard Davies an ex SWW member is selling his 1991 GL1500 trike and needs an MOT. Eddie kindly directed us to the MOT Stations that were local to him in Neath.

The Panteg House Classic Car Show in Griffithstown is taking place on Saturday, 14 May, 2022 from 12 noon. Please meet at the McDonalds Car Park, New Inn, Pontypool, NP4 0XB at 1145 leaving promptly at 1200.

The Dinas Powys Rotary Vale of Glamorgan Classic Car Show in Sully is taking place on Sunday 29 May, 2022 from 1000 to 1700. Passes were handed out to those at the meeting. Barry will give out the remaining ones on the day. Please meet 0830 at Barry’s (8 St Teilo Close, Dinas Powys, CF64 4TY) for bacon butties. Leaving Barry’s promptly at 0930.

We have received an invitation to show the Wings at the Bishton Fete and Dog Show on Saturday 25 June 2022 from 1300 to 1700. We will be attending and meet details will be confirmed at our next meeting.

Also, we have received an invitation to show the Wings at the Police HQ Open Day at Croesyceiliog on Sunday 3 July. More details next month. It was noted that this date clashes with the Lincolnshire Wing Ding which some South Walians will be attending.
