Meeting Notes February, 2022

                                                    BJH/14.02.22

1       We welcomed fifteen members to the meeting, it was good to see Lester having now recovered from Covid.

2       Apologies had been received from Tony & Helen, Anita, Bill & Pinky, Andrew & Sharon, Bob & Sonya, Myra, Keith, Jim & Carole, Eddie & Susan and Harry & Gaynor.

3       Jeff provided us with an update on the South Wales Wings Website which had made good progress. In the member’s section we require more member photographs. Please send your photographs soonest to Jeff at Pictures@south-wales-wings.co.uk

4       The South Wales Wings Leaflet for new Goldwing owners is still available from Barry if your stocks are running low.

5       Our Christmas Dinner planned for Friday 17 December, 2021 at The Glascoed Pub was postponed due to Covid. Following a discussion, it was agreed that, subject to the Pub’s availability, we would have a dinner (not a Christmas one) on SUNDAY 20 MARCH, 2022 1830 for 1900. Deposits already paid will be carried over. A new menu will be available shortly.

6       Jeff provided a very positive feedback on the Father Christmas Escort at Bishton that took place on Sunday, 19 December, 2021, four Wings had attended, for which the Friends of Bishton (FOB) were very grateful. Funds amounting to £100.00 had been raised and a FOB cheque will be presented to Blood Bikes Wales next month.

7       Barry mentioned the South Wales Wing Ding, taking place from 12 to 17 July 2022 at The Glascoed Pub. South Walians had commented on the Draft Flier and Draft Budget for the event that had been circulated which had now been finalised. The final Flier is displayed on the GWOCGB Website under GWOCGB Events. We need to sort the menu for the event but we still have time to agree it. We are looking for items suitable for the goody bag, if there is anything you see, about 150 of them, that you think might be suitable please contact the Officers. Also looking for donations. Roger mentioned that the post code for the Pub covers a fairly wide area so it will be important to display plenty of signage in the area to make sure our guests find the site.

8       Barry asked the question whether we wanted to hold a Light Parade this year.  He outlined the areas of concern that he had, namely: two events in one year, Council support or not, location, Lions Club or such like support and cost. He felt that it would be better to put all our member efforts into our Wing Ding. Following a lengthy discussion, it was unanimously agreed, with one abstention, that we do not hold a Light Parade this year but we look early next year to find a location and organise one in October, 2023.

9       Your GWOCGB Membership is now overdue, if you have not yet renewed it. Renewal Forms are on line or from Barry. Membership cards will be circulated to all renewed members at the end of February, 2022

10   We have had thankyous from the Care Homes that we supported with our Christmas gifts. Thanks to those who delivered them.

11   We have received an invitation to display at the Panteg House Classic Car Show, Griffithstown, on Saturday, 14 May, 2022 from 12 noon. It was agreed that we support the event which is in aid of the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital. More details to follow.

12   The Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show is taking place at the NEC, Birmingham. Barry will be going on Wednesday, 23 February, 2022 and offers car seats for those who might be interested.

13   A collection will be made for charity from GWOCGB members and regions in memory of the very well-known Stuart Feeny of Appleyards who died recently.  Following a discussion, it was unanimously agreed that South Wales Wings make a donation of £50.00, Barry would make the necessary arrangements with the GWOCGB PR Officer who was coordinating the collection.

14   Barry advised that we had received a request from a member to change the format of our monthly meetings to include talks, Powerpoint presentations and demonstrations and the like, not necessarily of a biking nature.  Following a lengthy discussion, it was agreed that members should consider the request and the suggestion that a different type of meeting be held on a quarterly basis. We would however, need someone in the region to take responsibility for organising such meetings. Any volunteers?

b.     Roger also advised that he can obtain South Wales Wings’ baseball caps in black for £8.00 (Barry currently has no stock). Please contact Roger if interested.

c.     It was suggested by Jeff that we organise an Easter Egg Run Out and drop any donated eggs to local children’s hospitals. Other members reminded the meeting that we had done this for many, many years previously and we had only stopped when we were not being made welcome by the hospital authorities. Instead, the Road Captain was asked to organise an Easter Run Out during April. Details to be advised.
