Meeting Notes July 2022

We welcomed 27 members to the meeting and it was especially good to see a new member “Tink” Carter otherwise known as Izzy. Welcome back. We also welcomed guests Bob Phillips and Andy Adams.

Apologies had been received from Tony & Helen, Bill & Pinky, Mark, Gaynor, Bob & Sonja, David, Nigel & Sarah, and Ken.

We noted the tragic death of our dear friend Andrew Bennett by standing for a minute’s silence. It was noted that at Andrew’s request no attended funeral would take place. Hopefully, an opportunity would arise to enable us to show our respect for a wonderful “gentle giant”.  Rest in Peace Andrew, you are now riding with the angels.

The South Wales Wing Ding will take place between 14 to 17 July 2022 at Caerphilly RFC.  We discussed in depth all the necessary arrangements that would be required and numerous people volunteered for all the jobs that would need doing. It was hoped that we would get a good turn out from GWOCGB members around the UK.

Jeff reported back on the Bishton Summer Fayre which had been a financial success and a very nice thank you letter had been received from the Church Secretary. However, due to the early bad weather, only two South Walians had managed to make the event.  A special thank you went to Vaughan who had arrived on his Wing rather wet.

Jeff also reported on the Police HQ Open Day that had taken place at Croesyceiliog on Sunday 3 July. Four Wings had attended a very successful event and the weather was very kind.

Barry reported on the Lincolnshire Wing Ding that had been held in Market Rasen at the end of June. Three South Walians had attended on Wings and a campervan, it was a good event, with favourable weather although attendees were down on previous years.

The first Thames Valley & White Horse Wings Wing Ding had been held in Reading in early July and was very successful with 81 inscriptions, two South Walians had attended on their Wings.

It was agreed that the Region support the Treffen Real Ale Bar by a beer barrel donation, as arranged by Roger, and it would also support the Treffen raffle with a number of prizes.

We had received an invitation to show our Wings at the Porthcawl Lions Vintage Fair on Saturday 13 August, 2022 from 12 noon to 1700 at Pyle Rugby Club.  After the meeting, several members indicated their intention to attend. Barry would let the organisers know. (Apologies from Barry he was in West Wales with his grandson so would not be able to attend.)  Malcolm would make the necessary muster arrangements and let everyone know.

We had also received an invitation to show the Wings at the Classic Car Show & Country Fayre, Fonmon Castle, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan on Saturday 17 September, 2022, 0930 to 1800. Names will be taken next month.
