Meeting Notes September, 2023

1 We welcomed nineteen members to the meeting.
2 Apologies had been received from Bill & Pinky, Harry & Gaynor, Bob & Sonja, Ian & Jayne, Nigel & Sarah, Jeff & June, Phil & Joy, Myra, Shane, Keith and Ken. We had heard that June was still poorly, so a Get-Well card was signed by all in attendance.
3 Malcolm reported on a very successful GWOCGB British Treffen held at Uttoxeter Racecourse over the August Bank Holiday weekend. 271 vehicles had inscribed including 40 from European countries which meant that over 500 people were in attendance including 19 from South Wales. Two very good Run Outs had taken place plus the Light Parade and the Parade of Nations involving over 100 Goldwings on most of these rides. The raffle, which South Wales had donated prizes to, was excellent with the winner receiving a cheque for £910 and the selected charity Doc Bikes receiving a cheque for over £1,500. The weather had been very good although night times were cold, and we did have a couple of showers. It is hoped that the event financially broke even. Treffen Accounts will be shared at the Member’s Open Meeting in October, 2023.
4 Malcolm also reported on the Llandudno Light Parade which had taken place over the first weekend of September. Many South Walians attended and had a very good weekend although two trikes were poorly during travelling and needed to be assisted home. A Run Out had taken place to visit the Wales Air Ambulance Airfield, unfortunately, some wingers had got lost on the way!! Over 300 Goldwings had taken part in the Parade and the public were in attendance in very large numbers.
5 Barry reported on the escort that we had provided for a bride, the daughter of Derek Hackett of West Wales Wings at Begally, Pembrokeshire on Saturday 2 September, 2023. Three very decorated Wings of South Walians had escorted the bride from the church at Begally to Milford Haven for the wedding breakfast. Other vehicles including road bikes and cabriolet Peugeots had been involved in the wedding convoy. Having left the bride safely with her groom the Wingers then travelled to Saundersfoot for food and the necessary ice cream. The weather had been glorious, and Derek was very grateful for our attendance making a sizeable donation to regional funds.

8 The Emergency First Aid Course will take place on Thursday 16 November, 2023 from 0930 to 1630 at Dinas Powys. Definite names soonest please. (Barry, Malcolm, Jeff, Tink and Les have signed up so far).
9 The meeting decided that we should investigate the possibility of having a Christmas Away Weekend. We will make some enquiries. This was preferred to a Christmas Dinner.
10 Barry reported that provisional plans had been discussed for a Show with Merthyr Scooter Club at the Labour Club, Merthyr Tydfil during 2024. Watch this space for further information.
11 Barry asked what will be our theme for the 2024 South Wales Wing Ding? He received no replies excepting a suggestion that there be no theme as most attendees chose not to dress up. Members are asked to give this some thought and bring any other suggestions to the next meeting.
12 Barry advised that he would shortly be ordering some SWW Polo Shirts and requested urgently – names, sizes and colours for interested members. The cost will be £12.50 each.

a. Barry reported that we have another “Sion the Sheep” to accompany the two others that we have. Members kindly looking after our mascots are asked to ensure that Sion accompanies them on their trips, and we provide photographic evidence of their travels for our Website and for WingSpan.
b. Malcolm reported that the GWOCGB National Committee had launched a poll from Full Members with a vote to gauge whether they wanted to keep the Non-Members Facebook Page. This had arisen following some very critical and damming remarks on that page about the Club, its officers and the Treffen. An opportunity for Full Members to Vote will exist on the Full Members Facebook Page, the Members GWOCGB Website from Sunday 17 September, 2023. Voting will be open until Tuesday 26 September, 2023. PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE YOUR SAY.
c. Eddie reported that he was carrying out an investigation about the regular failures of Goldwing alternators on both GL1800 and GL1500 machines. He would like to know your experience of such failures and what replacement alternators you have used and from what source. His early investigations seem to indicate that excessive engine heat is causing the alternators to fail, and he is currently exploring ways in which such heat can be dispersed with ventilation of some sort. Please let him know your alternator history, by all means pass your comments to him via Malcolm or Barry.
16 The raffle raised £22.00 for regional funds, thanks to Chris, the prize donators and all those that purchased tickets.
17 The next regional meeting will be held on Sunday, 8 October, 2023, starting at 1830 at Taffs Well RFC.
