We welcomed 24 members to the meeting, it was especially good to welcome Tracey Dyas to her first meeting. Also good to see Dave Webster.
Apologies had been received from Tony & Helen, Bill & Pinky, Mark & Karen, Ian & Jayne, Harry & Gaynor, Bob & Sonja, Nigel & Sarah, Jeff & June and Ken.
We held a minute’s silence for Her Majesty the Queen thinking particularly of her Family and all of us who had lost a very special Monarch.
It had been suggested that we have a Ride of Respect for her Majesty. Our Road Captain Lester was asked to come up with a date and a venue after her funeral.
Malcolm gave us a feedback about the Lions Club event at Pyle RFC in August. Three Wings had been able to make it on a very, very hot day so much so that children could not sit on the Wings. The event as a whole was good with plenty of classic cars and stalls but not as many public as usual in attendance (another event was taking place in Porthcawl and that may have drawn many of the public).
Malcolm also talked about a very successful British Treffen that had taken place in Uttoxeter over the August Bank Holiday weekend. 397 inscriptions with over 800 people there enjoying a very good site with plenty going on including a ride around the Donnington racetrack. Excellent and well managed run outs and very satisfactory entertainment. 24 South Walians had attended so we had good regional representation. Weather was kind and the journeys to and from the event were without incident apart from a roundabout mix up. Those that did not attend missed a real treat. The 2023 British Treffen will be held at Newark RFC.
The Llandudno Light Parade had taken place at the beginning of September and had been successful with 110 Wings taking part in the static display. A large number took part in the Parade, crowds that lined the street seemed bigger than usual. Several members of South Wales had attended and had a really good time although the Evans Hotel was not as well frequented as in previous years, bar prices were a little high and attendees choose to go into the town, Weatherspoons was very popular. The organiser Dave Crowley was retiring and Zenon (Sid) Wozniak was taking over.
The invitation to show the Wings at the Classic Car Show & Country Fayre, Fonmon Castle, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan on Saturday 17 September 0930 to 1800 had been accepted. The Meet Place, a Lay By on the B4265 Barry to Llantwit Major Road, has been selected and separate details have been sent out to all members. Please meet at about 0800 leaving promptly at 0820 we need to be there by 0830.
There is a possible invitation to take part in Caerphilly’s River of Light Lantern Parade on Saturday 3 December, 2022 1800 to 2000. Starting at the train & bus station, through the town to the rear of the Castle. The Caerphilly County Borough is organising the event so we wait with interest as to whether we can join the Parade. Meet arrangements to follow soonest.
There is also the possibility that we can hold a static exhibition in Caerphilly Town Centre. Since the meeting we have been in contact with the Town Council and unfortunately, it looks as though this cannot take place as the Town Council own no property, it is all owned by the County Council and an ESAG (Events Safety Advisory Group) application would be necessary.
It has been suggested that South Wales Wings hold a possible Christmas Away Weekend over the period 9/10/11 December, 2022. Jayne and Ian our members and the proprietors of The Old School, Pencader, Carmarthen, SA39 9BS have very generously offered us their Bed & Breakfast facility with incredibly reduced prices. Members at the meeting were very keen to go to Carmarthen but unfortunately the Pencader facility can only accommodate eighteen people. Well below the number of people that expressed an interest. In the circumstances, we have had to decline the superb offer and seek a venue elsewhere. It was agreed that we ask Jeff Howells, our Social Secretary, to urgently investigate alternative locations that could accommodate up to thirty people
