January Span Report.

Hi, all trust all is well with everyone, and you all had a good Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Well, we have made it through the Covid period 2021 and now look forward to a packed calendar for  2022 and hopefully Covid free. We all look forward to the British Treffen which is long overdue, bring it on.

We at South Wales Wings have been incredibly quiet during the latter part of 2021 with the cancellation of our Light Parade, adverse weather conditions and of course the Pandemic. November 14th, 2021, we held our AGM after it had been delayed due to the pandemic and all went well. We would normally pick a winner for the Winger of the Year Award for work carried out throughout the year, but it was instead proposed that the trophy should now be presented to our past Club Rep Bob Carter deceased in Memorium and kept in our trophy cabinet.

All our Officers were re-elected so Malcolm and Roger continue to steer the ship and Barry keeps his eye on the money and the supplies. Lester maintains his role as Road Captain.

Once again, this year Blood Bike Wales has been nominated as our main Charity and that we would also continue with the collection of the infamous Pot Noodles and due to the Christian Street Ministries no longer operating they would be delivered to two local food banks instead. South Wales Wings has recently renewed its Website thanks to Jeff Howells our Webmaster setting up the new site and the site address is: –  www.south-wales-wings.co.uk. It was also suggested that we deliver some festive gifts to local care homes in the way of tins, packets of biscuits, selection boxes and tubs of sweets.

Bad news came our way, Andrew Bennet caught the dreaded Virus and was isolating when he had a dizzy spell and fell. Andrew fell onto his wrist, shattering his wrist and breaking his leg ending up in hospital for an operation to fit pins into his wrist, we continue to wish him a speedy recovery.

We now have regional information leaflets to keep on our Wings in case we meet any prospective new members that require help; this leaflet explains who we are, contact addresses, contact numbers and club meeting dates etc. A very useful communication tool.

Remember, 2022 is the year we will be having a Wing Ding this time at Usk, The Glascoed Pub. A wonderful site, plenty large enough to accommodate all the tents, motor homes and campervans that want to turn up. Dogs on leads are allowed as well.  The dates for your diary are Thursday, 14 July to Sunday, 17 July, 2022. We are still in the preparation stage at the moment but we will be giving regular updates as our plans are finalised. And, all being well, subject to getting the right permissions, we plan to be holding a Static Display and Light Parade on Saturday 1 October, 2022. Possibly Porthcawl or elsewhere dependent on how the Local Authorities respond.

Thanks all for now have a great Winging year. Malcolm.

February Span Report.

Hi all it is the Welsh Paparazzi reporting on what’s on and what has happened here in South Wales. Firstly, I hope the majority have made it through to the New Year and condolences for the ones that did not. Once again in South Wales the weather has played a big part as well as Covid and new restrictions curtailing our activities.

Hopefully, that is now behind us and the work begins on our Wing Ding and Light Parade. However, we did manage to support a local Santa Run at Bishton, Newport, where four units turned up in full regalia and lights. The weather was fine a little overcast but acceptable a few hours delivering parcels on behalf of Santa to local Children leaving them with smiles on their faces well worth it. (Images of Santa run.)

Several of our members delivered donated Chocolates and biscuits to Mountain Ash, Maesycmmer and Cwmaman Residential Care Homes over the Christmas period to which they were very thankful. Sad news for South Wales Wingers due to new restrictions we had to put our Christmas dinner on hold at The Glascoed Inn so we wait to see if we can reorganise.

With no other business to report we wish you well and safe riding.

Malcolm Green.
