South Wales Span Report July 2022.

Hi all it is the Welsh Paparazzi here from sunny South Wales reporting on recent events here in South Wales.

Firstly, a report on the Yorkshire Wing Ding by Roger (Blood Bank) Woods.

May 19th six South Wales Wingers travelled to Yorkshire to attend the Wing Ding which turned out to be a very well organised and a brilliant weekend. The visit to the Wing Ding unfortunately did not come without its problems, firstly Roger had a problem with his clutch reservoir leaking on his Wing and then got bogged down in the Rugby Club in his Motor home and had to be towed out by many Gold Wing Members who eventually freed him from his predicament and his clutch was fixed without even having to take the seat off!!!.

Lester and Barry on returning from the run out met with an accident which was caused by a flatbed suddenly coming to a stop at the bottom of a steep hill and to avoid collision Lester laid the bike down trapping Lester under the Bike and throwing Barry off not before Lester used him to break his fall. The emergency services were in attendance which include the Police and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, to which Lester thanked them but did not require their services. Lester having trapped his leg under the bike and came away with minor injuries (swollen ankle) and a damaged pride, Barry did an Elvis impression (he was all shook up) but Ok. The bike sustained minor damaged but Ok and reinforcements were drafted in to help in the way of Vaughan and Anita, whilst Anita drove the two injured parties back to camp Vaughan rode the bike back. A very big thank you must go out to all who helped to resolve the problems that were encountered whilst attending the Wing Ding which is a wonderful Club to belong to. The Welsh contingency present were Barry, Roger, Lester, Vaughan, Ian and Jayne, it was a change to all get together once again.

Sunday May 29th, 2022, ten units from the South Wales Wings fourteen in all attended a static display at the Rotary Vale of Glamorgan Classic Car show which consisted of 4 trikes and six solos. We all met at Barry (Sheene) Hawkin’s home where his good lady wife Jane Hawkins served up bacon butties, Tea and coffee which we all very much appreciated, and our thanks goes out to them. In attendance were Eddie and Sue, Ray and Lynette, Malcolm and Irene, Roger (Blood Bank) Woods, Keith, Barry (Sheene) Hawkins, Lester (Evil Knievel) Kenting, Phil James and making her debut on her first solo event on her Trike Myra Bailey. The show went well the day was perfect lovely and sunny with a little breeze and Joy James came along to support but unfortunately was taken ill and had to be rushed off to hospital, thankfully she is on the road to recovery. Eddie Hawkins had managed to claim second prize in the Best in show  motorbike category with his trike and trailer, well done Eddie.

Myra Bailey

Saturday 14th May 2022, South Wales Wings attended a Classic Car show at Panteg House, Griffithstown, Pontypool. Attending the event were six units 8 wingers in all, consisting of two trikes and four solos, in attendance were Barry Hawkins, Lester Kenting, Jeff Howell, Vaughan Williams, Malcolm, and Irene Green and Ray Pryor and later during the day Eddie Hawkins came along to support us all and nearly lost his Jacket but thanks to Jeff it was located thankfully, all in all a very warm day well attended and enjoyed by all.

Just a little note on Gerald Prior and his rebuild, having stripped his 1800 down dismantling the total gearbox, he has now purchased all the required parts and is in the middle of re-assembly, so hopefully we will see him back on the circuit soon. (Good luck Gerald).

Just another word on our Wing Ding all is in place we have dotted the I’s and crossed the T’s and fingers crossed that the weather is with us, do not forget folk’s 14th to 17th July be there or be square.

That is all for now so ride safe and take care until we meet again,

Malcolm Green, Area Rep.
