South Wales Wings. Area Rep.

Hi let me introduce myself and South Wales Wings, but first of all I will give you an insight into the History of our region. Firstly we are a member of the Goldwing Owners Club of Great Britain and there are regions throughout the UK.

1987 saw the birth of South Wales Wings it was the result of increased membership of what was once called Severn Wings that covered South Wales, Bristol, Somerset and surrounding areas, The region grew very large due to increasing membership numbers and it was decided to be divide the original region into four separate regions and they were named Avon Wings, West Wales Wings North Wales Wings and of course South Wales Wings, this was to identify with the members that lived in those areas.

We are South Wales Wings residing in God’s Country, land of song, mountains, Welsh cakes, sheep, our hospitality and not forgetting some of the finest motorcycling roads to be had. Our region covers North to Builth Wells, South to the Bristol Channel (Cardiff Bay) West to Neath and East to Chepstow and various areas in-between. We are based at TaffsWell RFC Near Cardiff and we meet on the second Sunday in the month at 6.30pm and all are welcome to visit us. We have a membership of approximately forty five with an average age of sixty fiveish, We have a vast amount of technical skills available to our members and others

that ask for guidance. Our members Wings consist of a mixture, from solo GoldWing’s 1000cc to 1800cc to an increasing population of trikes of various sizes which have doubled in our area and throughout the regions, we also have Quads which is a GoldWing with stabilizers.

The region prides itself in participating in all Goldwing calendar events and are often on trips abroad supporting our GWEF brothers and sisters, something we have done for many years. Charity is a must within the region, attending many fund-raising events, static displays, foodbanks fund raising and supporting BloodBike (BBW) Wales to which we have been fortunate to having some BBW riders in the region. In general, we support most events throughout the years concerning the GoldWing organisation to include Light Parades and in 2019 held our very own light parade at Porthcawl, which proved to be very successful.

We are often away at weekends on what we call Wing Dings which the regions organise and all attend either by camping or by motorhomes/campervans where we all get together and have a great time, we also have Treffens (a friendship gathering) which are similar to Wingding’s but on a bigger scale and usually with our European friends. As a local region we are often asked to provide escorts for funerals and weddings and also people’s bucket lists for special occasions. So that’s a little about our region and I

now take the occasion to introduce myself. My Name is Malcolm Green and I was elected as area representative for South Wales Wings and if I can help in anyway in regards to GWOCGB or our region please feel free to contact me.
